I think Ishant Sharma has been as the "demonstrator of how not to bowl in SA". Zaheer will demonstrate of how to bowl in SA to the young pacers and Ishant will demonstrate how not to bowl in SA. Other than that I don't see any reason for picking a bowler who averages 48 in the most helpful pitches for fast bowling anywhere on earth (SA). Also averages 60+ in England and 70+ in Australia. A genuinely dreadful fast bowler. Now i dont understande the logic of not keeping zaheer in the odi format and also harbhajan singh who by the way has taken 18 wickets in 3 matches in ranji and has been in better form than Ashwin and Gambhir has been working really hard on his game and is right now a better batsman than Vijay. My 11 for Test. Dhawan, Vijay, Pujara, Rohit, Kohli, Dhoni, Jadeja, Ashwin, Zaheer, Sami, Ojha. Jadeja works as a second spinner. SA pitches are not one sided as pace only. It is the Indian Batting Attack who needs to adjust to their bowlers rather then the pitch. It is the mental aspect of the batsmen. Bowling wise we should play to our strength that is 2 quality spinners as spin is SA weakeness. Thank you selectors for doing such a good job, not withstanding your obsession with that spare head. Good riddance to Vinay Kumar. Gambhir, expected and well deserved. Good luck Rayudu. Time to give few more chances to Rahane. Let him swim or sink. Nice to see good pace attack with Zak, Shami and Yadav. It will be difficult to pick just three seamers from this pack. Interesting to see if India goes with 7+4 or 6+5 combo. Time for Jadeja to come good with bat too. Both the games will be played on fast bowler paradise. India given its propensity for safety approach will go with 7 batsmen (if we do it at home, I will be surprised if its not practiced in SA). So Vijay, Dhawan, Pujara, Kohli, Rohit, Dhoni make it for sure. So Does Zak, Shami, Kumar. I dont think they will go with Umesh Yadav + Shami both so one of them makes to the team and for now it is Shami. Last two spots can go to Ashwin (only spinner in side + bit of a bat) + Rahane/Rayadu. Or Jadeja (bit of a bat and bowl) + Rahane/Rayadu. I will be surprised to see both Ashwin+Jadeja making it to the eleven, but stranger things have happened. Good to see the selection committee go by logic and omit Gambhir/Sehwag and finally Sachin! Zaheer was a no-brainer. Badrinath might have been a great choice, but given his age, I believe they decided to look ahead. I don't see Jadeja playing a role in SA though. The real tragedy is that India is going to face Steyn, Morkel et al - with two rookie openers, of whom one of them (Vijay) has close to a zero chance of success. Not sure how including a middle order bat solves the opener dilemma. Perhaps we should resign ourselves to losing at least one early wicket.
